Spree Lady at Tower Bridge, which completed a series of Wayfarer cruises from London to Helsinki** for the Aero Spar co-designer, Ralph Roberts |
About usThe Aero Luff Spar was developed by long distance cruising enthusiast Ralph Roberts* and Terry Cook*, head of engineering and development at PCE Automation Ltd. The original concept of the spar was to provide the convenience and practicality of furling and/or reefing a genoa or foresail, without reducing it’s efficiency when used in its normal, unfurled state. Matt Sharman was the first dinghy sailor to see the potential of the spar and request one be made for him. He is a lifelong dinghy sailor, who has cruised his Wayfarer extensively around the UK coastline, particularly the west coast of Scotland. He has always taken a great interest in the spar, and now retired, has become a partner in the business. Peter Thomas, M.D. of Cornish Crabbers, became involved in developing the spar for the larger cruiser market, and now fits the Aero Furling Spar as a standard feature to his complete range of Cornish Crabber boats, up to, and including the 30ft twin headsail Pilot Cutter. *Ralph Roberts is a retired Design and Technology teacher. He has cruised and raced his Wayfarer for the last 30 years and been a past Commodore and Cruising Secretary of the UK Wayfarer Association, International Secretary of the WIC (Wayfarer International Committee) and is current International Rep. for the UKWA. *Terry Cook started his career on the engineering side of Poolcraft Boat Builders and Marine Engineers which diversified and expanded into the business of PCE Automation. His engineering expertise developed Ralph’s concept for an ideal foresail furling/reefing system into its present efficient design. Terry now acts as a technical consultant for ALS Ltd. |
